I really don't like to talk while I eat. But, at every meal, I'm either bombarded with questions or I need to remind my kids to - keep eating, stop playing with the dogs, and not laugh with food in their mouths.
Some Q's and phrases at mealtime:
What are you eating? (Does it matter?)
Are you eating the same thing as us? (Yes)
Will you scratch my back? (Not while I'm eating)
Will you feed me? (Usually my youngest)
I want to sit next to you. (Buh-bye personal space)
Can I tell you what I was dreaming about last night? (Sure)
How many bites do I have to take? (This usually turns into a negotiation)
My hand hurts, my head hurts, my stomach hurts, my bum hurts. (Eat and you'll feel better)
Ramblings about legos and lego shows. (Where are my f*cking ear plugs?)
This goes on, non-stop, until they're done eating.
Rarely, I retreat to my room (which I don't like to do), just to enjoy the peace of chewing without distractions.
I love my kids, but I'm looking forward to when I can send them back to school and have one meal a day in silence.
And please, this is a no-judgement zone.
What's one thing you're looking forward to, post COVID?
